A viral recruitment message is circulating on WhatsApp claiming that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has opened recruitment for new staff. The message urges interested applicants to click on a link to apply.
The link redirects to a form titled “Latest Job Opportunities” under an “Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Official Recruitment Portal 2026” banner. It claims that the commission is inviting applications for a total of 5,750 available positions for its “2026 recruitment intake,” with an application deadline set for Friday, July 31, 2026.
Background
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is the constitutional body responsible for conducting and supervising elections and referenda in Kenya. It typically recruits temporary staff only when an election or by-election is approaching. For instance, on May 22, 2026, the commission announced the recruitment of temporary election officials ahead of the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election, which was held on July 16, 2026.
Kenya is set to hold its next General Election on August 10, 2027, about a year from now. As the country moves closer to the polls, recruitment posts like these tend to become increasingly common.
Verification
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission dismissed the viral recruitment as fake here, here and here.

The IEBC clarified that “all recruitment opportunities are advertised exclusively through the official IEBC Jobs Portal (https://jobs.iebc.or.ke) and the Commission’s verified communication channels.”
The link provided in the viral recruitment message does not match the official recruitment portal shared on the post attached above.
Verdict
The viral recruitment message circulating on WhatsApp is FAKE.
