A Facebook post shared on Gusii Social Political Forum by an online influencer and blogger, Mwanabiashara KE, shows an alleged The Standard newspaper front page dated Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
The cover features the headline, “Who Is the Mole?” alongside photos of key opposition figures: former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka and Fred Matiang’i. The front page also claims that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i of leaking confidential United Opposition secrets to His Excellency President William Ruto’s government.
Background
Rigathi Gachagua served as Kenya’s Deputy President from 2022 until his impeachment in October 2024. He remains a highly influential political figure in the Mt. Kenya region and continues to shape broader opposition alignments. His association with the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has further consolidated his political influence, positioning the party as a significant vehicle in efforts to mobilise support and redefine opposition politics ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Fred Matiang’i is a former Cabinet Secretary who held various senior dockets (including Interior and Coordination of National Government) under former President Uhuru Kenyatta between 2013 and 2022. The Jubilee Party has endorsed him as a potential presidential contender for the 2027 general election.
Kalonzo Musyoka is the leader of the Wiper Patriotic Front (WFP), former Vice President (2008–2013), and a central principal within the United Opposition alliance.
The front page was posted during a period of public and political speculation regarding alignment, trust, and potential cracks within the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Piga Firimbi reviewed The Standard‘s verified e-paper platform from June 3, 2026, and found that the genuine front page for Wednesday, June 3, 2026, carried the headline “Take them home,” focusing on a local public health controversy over a proposed Ebola quarantine facility. This differs entirely from the alleged front page circulating on Facebook.
The Standard routinely publishes its front pages on its verified digital platforms, including Facebook and X, as well as on its e-paper platform.
