A graphic attached to this Facebook post shared on July 22, 2027, purportedly shows a Standard newspaper front page with the headline “From Opposition to Cooperation?” It also features an image of the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua with additional text on the front page suggesting he has signalled a possible shift in his political approach, expressing a willingness to work with the government in the country’s interest.

Background
Rigathi Gachagua is the leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), whose candidate, Sammy Kamau, won the July 16, 2026 Ol-Kalou Constituency parliamentary by-election against Samuel Muchina of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), President William Ruto’s ruling party. Speaking at his home during a thanksgiving event, Rigathi Gachagua claimed that senior government figures from the Mt. Kenya region and local leaders aligned with President Ruto had started reaching out to him following the by-election win.
Verification
A review of The Standard’s official X (formerly Twitter) account shows no record of the above front page image. The front page for the newspaper dated July 22, 2026 is different, as shown in the screenshot below.

The Standard, through its official account on X, dismissed the front page as fake.

Verdict
The graphic purporting to show the front page of The Standard newspaper dated July 22, 2026, is FAKE.
