This link has been shared across various WhatsApp groups with claims that the East African Breweries Limited is giving away Kshs 9,000 in celebration of its 9th anniversary.

With a poster of an alcoholic brand brewed by this company, participants are generally required to answer questions before being awarded the said prize. These questions range from their knowledge of this company to their age and gender.

Verification

Just by clicking on this link, Google gives an alert about its security and terms it as a deceptive site.

Additionally, according to WhoIs information, this link was created on December 11, 2020.

Compare this with EABL’s official website whose domain, eabl.com, was registered on November 22, 2001.

Further, on November 9, 2021 East African Breweries Limited flagged this advert as fake in a tweet stating that it does not solicit money from the public for any activity.

Over time, Piga Firimbi has looked into similar claims. One alleged that the Co-operative Bank of Kenya was giving away Ksh 9,000 on its 55th anniversary. While another claimed that Safaricom was giving away Ksh 9,000 on its 30th anniversary.

Verdict

This link claiming to give Ksh 9,000 on its 9th anniversary is FAKE.
