A Facebook post claims that an Indian doctor confessed to being paid KSh300 million to poison former Prime Minister Raila Odinga using botulinum toxin.
The claim was shared on June 12, 2026, by a Facebook account with the username Hon Maura Hamad, which primarily posts political commentary and content on Kenyan current affairs. The post includes a link to an article by HiviPunde containing the same claim.
BACKGROUND
Raila Odinga, Kenya’s former Prime Minister and veteran opposition leader, travelled to India on October 10, 2025, for medical treatment. According to his family, he had been in the country for approximately six days before his death.
He was receiving treatment in Kerala, India, and was accompanied by his family and his personal physician, Dr David Livingstone Oluoch.
On October 15, 2025, Raila reportedly collapsed during a morning walk at an Ayurvedic centre in Kerala and was rushed for emergency medical treatment. According to hospital officials cited by Kenyan and Indian media reports, medical personnel administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and other emergency procedures in an attempt to save his life. Sadly, hospital officials confirmed Raila Odinga died of cardiac arrest on the same day.
Among the doctors who publicly spoke about Raila’s final hours was Dr.Alphons, a cardiologist at Devamatha Hospital in Kerala, who stated that Raila suffered a cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment.
VERIFICATION.
Reports by Kenyan and Indian media identified Dr. Alphons, a cardiologist at Devamatha Hospital in Kerala, as one of the doctors who publicly spoke about Raila Odinga’s final hours. According to statements attributed to hospital officials, Raila suffered a cardiac arrest after collapsing during a morning walk while undergoing treatment in India. Medical personnel reportedly administered CPR and emergency treatment, but he could not be revived.
No official statement from Kenyan or Indian authorities supports the claim that an Indian doctor confessed to being paid KSh300 million to poison Raila Odinga.
A reverse image search conducted using Google Lens identified the doctor shown in the image as Dr. Vinay Jadhav. Publicly available information, including a professional listing on Justdial, indicates that Dr. Jadhav is associated with Food Yoga Health Clinic in Fort, Mumbai, India.
However, searches did not find any public statement, interview, police record, court document or medical report linking Dr. Jadhav to the alleged poisoning of Raila Odinga or showing that he confessed to harming the former Prime Minister.
On June 12, 2026, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) dismissed the claim through its official X account, flagging the post as “FAKE”. The agency rejected allegations that an Indian doctor had been paid KSh300 million to poison Raila Odinga using botulinum toxin.
A review of the Hivipunde.com article found that it does not provide independently verifiable evidence for the allegation, such as the identity of the alleged doctor, audio or video recordings of the purported confession, medical reports, toxicology findings or official investigation documents.
A search of publicly available reports from Kenyan media outlets, including Daily Nation, The Standard and The Star, found no report confirming that an Indian doctor made such a confession.
