Was a Motivational Speaker Beaten Up by the Audience?

Multiple posts have been shared online claiming that a motivational speaker was beaten after he insulted the audience.

Background

The posts shared claim two different reasons for why the motivational speaker was beaten. One of the claimed reasons is the speaker called the audience lazy after he explained how he started his business with “Kshs 1,000.” The other reason being peddled is that the speaker was beaten after saying he started his restaurant with “tin tomatoes and a plate.”

Verification

 A reverse image search shows that the man in the photo was not actually a motivational speaker, but a suspected thief caught by an angry mob in Ghana in July 2016.

 Claims that a motivation speaker was beaten up by his audience, as claimed in various stories using the above image, are FALSE.
