Background
On July 22, 2026, Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i held a consultative meeting with members of the Linda Mwananchi group led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. The meeting was held at Matiang’i’s Karen office in Nairobi, and according to the leaders and aides in attendance, it was the first among a series of upcoming engagements between Sifuna and the United opposition principals. The meeting took place just days before Linda Mwanachi toured Trans Nzoia and Bungoma counties, where Edwin Sifuna was expected to make a major announcement.
In a post on Fred Matiang’i’s official X account published after the meeting, he stated, “Our discussions focused on strengthening strategic coordination across the United Alternative Government and aligning our efforts as we continue to offer Kenyans a credible, principled, and people-centred alternative ahead of the 2027 General Election.”
The viral press release was circulated shortly after Fred Matiang’i posted on his socials about the meeting.
Verification
A review of Linda Mwananchi’s X account found no press release matching the claim had been published. However, a post dismissing the press release as fake was shared on the account.

Verdict
The press release claiming that the Jubilee Party and Linda Mwananchi Movement have formed a new coalition is FAKE.
