A post on X by user Jay Leizer (@rais_jay) questioned whether Safaricom had introduced a self-service platform for increasing Fuliza limits. The user shared a screenshot of a suspicious social media page named “My Fuliza Limit”, which uses a green circular “S” logo resembling Safaricom branding and directs users to the website myfulizalimit.co.ke.

The post read: “@SafaricomPLC @Safaricom_Care Is this true you have self service fuliza increament???? Please confirm if it’s true kindly @SafaricomPLC”
The page claims to offer an online self-service platform where customers can increase their Fuliza limits, check balances, and access other Fuliza-related services.
Background
Fuliza M-PESA is a continuous overdraft facility offered by Safaricom that enables eligible M-PESA customers to complete transactions even when they have insufficient funds in their mobile money accounts.
Instead of declining a transaction due to a low balance, Fuliza automatically covers the shortfall up to a customer’s approved limit, allowing users to send money, pay bills through Lipa na M-PESA, buy airtime, and complete other supported M-PESA transactions. The borrowed amount is automatically recovered once money is deposited into the customer’s M-PESA account.
To access the service, customers must have an active Safaricom line registered on M-PESA using a Kenyan national identity card, Kenyan passport or Military ID. Customers registered using foreign passports are not eligible to opt in. Eligible customers can activate the service by dialling *334#, selecting Loans and Savings, then Fuliza, and choosing Opt In.
Registration does not automatically guarantee access to credit. Fuliza limits are assigned using an automated credit-scoring model operated by Safaricom’s banking partner. The system evaluates several factors, including M-PESA transaction volumes, airtime purchases, voice calls, SMS and data usage, repayment history for Fuliza and other loan products such as Okoa Jahazi, Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) status, and savings behaviour on M-Shwari and KCB M-PESA.
Customers who have been active on the Safaricom network for at least six months are considered for a Fuliza limit based on their account activity. Those with less than six months of usage generally receive a zero limit until they build sufficient transaction history. Each M-PESA line is assessed independently.
Fuliza limits are reviewed periodically, typically every three months, and may increase or decrease depending on a customer’s continued usage and repayment behaviour. Customers can also request a review every 30 days through the “Refresh My Limit” option available on *334#, but the outcome remains entirely automated.
Safaricom has consistently maintained that neither customers nor its staff can manually increase Fuliza limits.
The company says the only way to improve the chances of receiving a higher limit is through responsible use of Safaricom services, frequent M-PESA transactions, timely loan repayments and maintaining good credit behaviour.
Conversely, limits may decrease if customers repeatedly delay repayments, default on their obligations, opt out of the service or significantly reduce activity on their Safaricom line.
Customers using Fuliza pay a one-off one per cent access fee on the overdraft amount, in addition to a daily maintenance fee, which varies depending on the amount borrowed and attracts 20 per cent excise duty. Charges continue until the outstanding balance is fully repaid. The maximum available Fuliza limit is Ksh 70,000, although individual limits vary based on automated assessment.
Many customers have publicly complained that their Fuliza limits have remained unchanged for years or have been reduced despite regular M-PESA use and timely repayments. These frustrations intensified after Safaricom posted a teaser on X on 2 July 2026 reading, “Mnaona aje guys?”, accompanied by an image suggesting possible higher Fuliza borrowing limits. The post sparked widespread speculation and appears to have created an opportunity for fraudsters to promote fake platforms promising instant limit increases.

Verification
Piga Firimbi’s investigation found that the website is fraudulent.
Safaricom directly dismissed claims that customers can increase their Fuliza limits through the website myfulizalimit.co.ke.
Responding to the viral post by Jay Leizer, the company said: “Hello, sorry that is a scam. Kindly report the fraud case here…”

The company reiterated that there is no external website or online self-service platform that customers can use to increase their Fuliza limits. Instead, limit reviews are conducted automatically by its banking partner based on customer usage patterns and repayment history.
The fake website, http://myfulizalimit.co.ke, presents itself as a “Safaricom Fuliza Portal” and claims users can increase their Fuliza limits online, check balances, and pay fees. However, it raises several red flags. It operates on an unofficial domain, not affiliated with Safaricom, imitates the company’s branding, provides no verifiable evidence of any partnership with Safaricom, and makes unrealistic promises of quick or guaranteed limit increases.

Safaricom’s official customer support channels, terms and conditions, and Fuliza service information contain no reference to any external portal for increasing limits. Instead, customers seeking a review are directed to use the “Refresh My Limit” option available through *334# or manage the service through the official M-PESA app.
The fake website also has a modern look with a white background and prominent green branding to mimic Safaricom’s official colors. The homepage shows a large promotional graphic of a smartphone displaying “FULIZA LIMIT” with a woman pointing at it, alongside Safaricom logos and a fake M-PESA notification.

A big green button labeled “Increase Your Limit” stands out in the center. When you click the green button, it takes you to a “Verify Your Account” form that asks for:
- Full Name
- Safaricom Phone Number (format like 07XXXXXXXX or 01XXXXXXXX)
- National ID Number
- Your Current Fuliza Limit (in Ksh)
There is a large green “Verify Account” button at the bottom.

Safaricom has also repeatedly warned customers against fraudulent websites and social media pages that request personal information or promise Fuliza limit increases in exchange for payments, noting that such platforms are commonly used for phishing and financial fraud.
Verdict
The claim that Safaricom is offering self-service Fuliza limit increases through the “My Fuliza Limit” website (myfulizalimit.co.ke) is FAKE.
