This post circulating on X, dated June 26, 2026, claims that former President Uhuru Kenyatta publicly pledged unwavering support to Edwin Sifuna all the way to State House as a reward for his loyalty to the late Raila Odinga.
The claim was posted by an account with the username Full Network Media, which primarily shares short political updates, attributed quotes from Kenyan political figures including members of the Kenyatta family, Rigathi Gachagua, Kuria Kimani, and ODM leaders alongside protest-related content and narratives centred on political loyalty and succession. Its posts are typically accompanied by images or videos and hashtags such as #Wantam.
The claim is accompanied by a graphic featuring Uhuru and a lengthy Swahili quote purportedly attributed to him. Translated into English, the statement reads:
“My son Edwin Sifuna, the Prado I promised you is ready. Come to my home in Ichaweri and collect it yourself. Don’t worry about campaign matters. I will support you all the way until the day you reach the State House. That is my way of repaying you for your loyalty and service to my late friend, Mzee Raila Odinga.”
The accompanying caption reads:
“Murima imesimama. Loyalty inalipwa na loyalty. Safari ni moja: Ikulu. #Wantam.”
“The Mt. Kenya region has taken a stand. Loyalty is rewarded with loyalty. We have one destination: State House. #Wantam”

Background
Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga were once fierce political rivals before forging a historic alliance through the 2018 Handshake. The political truce fundamentally reshaped Kenya’s political landscape, bringing Uhuru’s Jubilee Party and Raila’s ODM into close cooperation under the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition.
During the 2022 General Election, Uhuru openly endorsed Raila’s presidential bid against then Deputy President William Ruto. He actively campaigned for Raila, including helping facilitate Azimio campaigns in the politically influential Mount Kenya region popularly referred to as “Murima.”
Raila Odinga died on October 15, 2025, while receiving treatment in India at the age of 80. His death prompted an outpouring of tributes from leaders across the political divide. Uhuru described Raila as a patriot whose lifelong struggle for democracy, justice, accountability and inclusion had transformed Kenya’s political history. He later urged Kenyans to safeguard and advance Raila’s legacy.
At the time of Raila’s death, Edwin Sifuna was serving as ODM Secretary General. He paid glowing tribute to the veteran opposition leader, pledged to keep the party united in honour of Raila’s legacy, and later criticised aspects of the government’s handling of the repatriation process and funeral arrangements.
After Raila’s death, Sifuna was embroiled in escalating internal disputes within ODM. In February 2026, sections of the party leadership initiated efforts to remove him as Secretary General over disagreements regarding his criticism of government policies and his association with a dissenting grassroots movement.
Sifuna and his allies subsequently intensified activities under the Linda Mwananchi movement, which positioned itself as a citizen-driven opposition platform advocating governance reforms through public rallies, civic engagement and nationwide mobilisation. Throughout this period, Sifuna consistently dismissed claims that former President Uhuru Kenyatta was financing either him personally or the Linda Mwananchi movement.
The wrangles deepened on June 22, 2026, when ODM’s National Executive Committee endorsed his removal as Secretary General. Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi team rejected the decision as unconstitutional and announced plans to challenge it in court.
The phrase “Murima imesimama” featured in the viral graphic refers to the Mount Kenya region, a politically significant voting bloc where Uhuru continues to wield considerable influence. Within the context of the post, the slogan appears intended to suggest that the region has thrown its support behind Sifuna’s political ambitions.
Edwin Sifuna has recently praised former President Uhuru Kenyatta for his role in the 2022 General Election, crediting him with mounting a vigorous campaign in support of Raila Odinga and the Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya Coalition. According to Sifuna, Uhuru committed his political influence and resources to back Raila’s presidential bid.
Sifuna has also publicly recognised the sacrifices Uhuru made for ODM and the Azimio coalition. In addition, he has apologised to the former President on behalf of some party leaders, saying they treated him unfairly following the coalition’s defeat in the 2022 General Election.
Verification
Piga Firimbi reviewed the graphic, the attributed quote, contemporaneous reporting, and publicly available records from late June 2026.
Piga Firimbi looked into Uhuru’s public appearances, verified social media accounts, official communications, and political reporting published between June 20 and June 30, 2026. However, there are no videos, official statements, press releases, or credible media reports documenting the alleged remarks or the purported Prado offer.
The claim appears intended to personalise and strengthen the broader false narrative by portraying Sifuna as enjoying Uhuru’s personal favour during a period of heightened ODM internal wrangles. However, the specific allegation that Uhuru publicly promised or invited Sifuna to collect a Prado at Ichaweri remains unverified and lacks any credible, independently verifiable evidence.
The specific claim that former President Uhuru Kenyatta gifted or promised Edwin Sifuna a Toyota Prado to collect personally at Ichaweri is not supported by credible evidence.
Verdict
The claim that former President Uhuru Kenyatta publicly promised to fully support Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna all the way to State House as repayment for his loyalty to the late Raila Odinga is FAKE.
