A TikTok post, archived here, contains a video showing a flooded area, with the post claiming that the video is from Turkey. The post further contains a caption that states “Most horrific monster flood in Turkey”, alongside hashtags like #Earthquake, #End and #2023, which imply that the flood in the video allegedly occurred after the recent February 2023 earthquakes in Turkey.
Background
Piga Firimbi previously debunked a similar false claim shared on TikTok, with a video originally from Mecca, Saudi Arabia claimed to show recent floods after the earthquakes in Turkey.
Parts of Turkey indeed experienced floods recently. As recent as March 12, 2023, the country’s meteorological service warned about strong winds and storms expected in İzmir, Manisa, Balıkesir and Çanakkale areas. This followed a warning about heavy rains. Similarly, an article published on a Turkey-based news website here, reports that floods were recently witnessed in the Dikili district of Izmir. The article is dated March 11, 2023.
Verification
However, the video shared on TikTok is neither from the floods following the recent earthquakes witnessed in Turkey, nor is it from events that ocurred this year.
An image reverse search reveals that the footage, albeit recorded in Turkey, is from two years ago. It was first shared on August 13, 2021, featuring on the Dailymotion website here, as well as posts on Twitter here and here.
Verdict
The TikTok post claiming to show recent floods in Turkey is FALSE.
