In a TikTok clip published on August 26, 2026, a user, Zaga Kenya, alleged that President William Ruto and opposition politician Rigathi Gachagua have agreed to work together ahead of the 2027 general elections. At the time of review, the clip had garnered 168k views, 5976 likes, 220 comments, and 278 shares. These numbers indicate that the post had generated significant traction.
The account, Zaga Kenya, has approximately 542k followers. In the clip, Ruto can be heard naming and appreciating his various supporters, including Kithure Kindiki, Ann Waiguru, and others.
Background
Rigathi Gachagua supported William Ruto’s bid for the presidency in the 2022 General Election, and the duo won with Gachagua serving as Ruto’s deputy. However, roughly two years into their tenure, their relationship deteriorated, culminating in impeachment proceedings against Gachagua, accused of corruption, gross misconduct, and a litany of other charges.
On October 17, 2024, the National Assembly and the Senate impeached Gachagua. However, he claimed the whole process was politically motivated and challenged it in court. On June 08, 2026, the High Court upheld his impeachment. Gachagua, disagreeing with this decision, moved to the Court of Appeal hoping for a more favourable outcome.
After his ouster from the government, Gachagua formed the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) and became a vocal critic of Ruto and his administration. Despite his impeachment case, Gachagua has expressed interest in running for presidency in the upcoming 2027 elections.

A Google reverse image search of a screenshot from the clip reveals it is extracted from a video posted on May 15, 2022, when Ruto named Gachagua as his running mate.
