Did Kuresoi North MP Shoot and Kill Two People on June 19, 2026?

This TikTok video was posted on June 19, 2026, with the caption BREAKING NEWS in red “Kuresoi North MP shoots and Kills 2 people. He personally drew his hand gun and shoot the victims. Chaos erupt in Umoja Ground in Nakuru.” The post was shared from an account with the username Opesh Ke, known for posting clickbait “news.” The account has 56,000 followers.  

Background

According to a report by Daily Nation, on June 19, Susan Kihika, the Governor of Nakuru, was hosting a youth and women empowerment event at Umoja Secondary School in Kuresoi North constituency when chaos broke out, and several people were injured. The violence erupted when, according to the report, supporters of Kuresoi North MP Alfred Mutai were barred from entering the venue.

As reported by Capital FM, two vehicles were torched, and 3 people sustained gunshot wounds during the clashes. Authorities immediately stepped in, and 56 people were arrested in connection with the violence, but 44 were released afterwards. Twelve suspects were arraigned in court on June 22. 

Mutai was detained by the DCI on June 22 based on being one of the prime suspects who facilitated the clashes. While the investigating officers sought to hold him for 21 days pending the completion of investigations, Mutai was released on June 23 with a bond of 100,000 shillings. 

Verification

According to the latest reports by credible outlets like Citizen and Daily Nation, three people were shot during the unrest and taken to Molo Level 4 Hospital. None of them succumbed to their injuries. In addition, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, in a statement released on their official X handle, mentioned that people had been injured and vehicles set on fire, but it made no mention of fatalities.

In addition, there is no confirmed report from investigating authorities that Mutai personally drew his gun and shot people during the clashes.

The claim that Kuresoi North MP shot and killed two people in Nakuru is FALSE.
