Digital cards circulating on Facebook, shared by pages including Mtaani.online and posted within groups such as KTN News Live, claim that former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has died following a road accident in Kilifi.
The circulating graphics carry the falsified branding of major news outlets including K24 Digital, Nation.Africa, and KTN Home/KTN News. One version of the graphic carries the branding of K24 Digital with the headline: “BREAKING NEWS-Aisha Juma Reportedly Dies Following a Grisly Road Accident in Kilifi,” alongside a date stamp of Friday, September 4, 2026. Another variant mimics the layout of Nation.Africa with a similar breaking news statement. Both graphics, including this one, feature a portrait of Jumwa alongside a photo of a heavily damaged black SUV.
At the time of review, these posts had accumulated hundreds of interactions, including hundreds of comments, directing social media users via clickbait links to third-party news blogs.
Background
False claims regarding the sudden death or fatal involvement of prominent politicians in accidents are a persistent clickbait strategy in Kenya’s digital ecosystem. Such fabrications are often designed to exploit public curiosity, driving traffic to external monetization sites.
Fabricated digital cards mimicking legacy news outlets like Nation.Africa, K24 Digital, and KTN have also become a central tactic in Kenya’s online disinformation ecosystem.
Aisha Jumwa is a former Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Gender and Affirmative Action and a former Malindi Member of Parliament who remains an active political figure in Coast politics.
Verification
A search across the official and verified digital platforms of both K24 TV and Nation.Africa shows no record of either outlet publishing digital cards alleging Aisha Jumwa’s death.
Furthermore, on September 6, 2026, Nation.Africa published an official “Fake News Alert” across its social media channels, stamping the circulating graphic with a prominent “FAKE” label and advising the public to ignore and refrain from sharing the false report.
Further disproving the claim, Aisha Jumwa remains active and has continued her public engagements following the date of the alleged crash. Posts on her verified Facebook page show that on September 5, 2026, she attended a funeral service in Marafa Ward, Magarini Constituency. Subsequent updates on her official page document her attending additional community events and public funeral services in Mwawesa Ward (Rabai) and Kokotoni (Tezo Ward) over the following days, confirming she is alive and well.
Verdict
The claim that K24 Digital and Nation.Africa reported the death of former CS Aisha Jumwa in a road accident in Kilifi is FALSE.
