Is This A True Video Of Kindiki Saying “Ruto Must Go!”?

This TikTok post with 1 million views and 56.5 thousand likes, published on July 24, 2026, on a TikTok account with the username ‘Citizen tv update ’, claims Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki said Ruto must go, quit UDA, and joined DCP. 

The caption reads, “Breaking news Kithure kindiki join DCP party and quit UDA party official to support Rigathi Gachagua and expose President William Ruto badly saying Ruto must go.” 

The account has 71.4 thousand followers and poses as the official Citizen Television TikTok account by using a similar name (Citizen tv update) and profile photo.

Background

Prof. Kithure Kindiki is the Deputy President of Kenya and Deputy Party Leader of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, deputizing William Ruto. Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) is a political party led by Rigathi Gachagua, formed after he was impeached as deputy president.

Kindiki is supporting President Ruto’s re-election in the upcoming 2027 general elections, le also seeking to retain his position as Deputy President. Kindiki and Gachagua have exchanged words at political rallies, as seen here, here, and here. On Sunday, July 12, Kindiki addressed a public rally after attending two church programs, and in the address, he continued his verbal attacks on Gachagua, as seen in this video. This video was cut and edited into the TikTok clip in the post.

Verification

In the TikTok clip in the post, Kindiki is allegedly addressing President Ruto in harsh words. The exact words he says in the clip are, “Rais Ruto! Wewe ni nani unakuja kunipatia lecture hapa? Aende asiende, aende asiende? Hii serikali ni yetu, tuliipigia kura tutasukumana tukiwa ndani. Niseme nisiseme? Huyo jamaa aende asiende? Huyo jamaa apotee asipotee?” Kindiki is seemingly addressing President Ruto, and daring to ask him who he thinks he is to lecture Kindiki. Kindiki further says that this is their government, referring to the Mount Kenya region. He further asks the crowd, “Should he go or not? Should he disappear or not?” 

There are a few jump cuts in the TikTok clip that hint that this was not a continuous video, but one created from a longer video. The Kenya Digital News logo at the top right of the video redirects to where the creator extracted the clip from. Piga Firimbi checked their YouTube channel and found the original video titled in part, “Kindiki’s Explosive Attack on Gachagua in Meru.” The original video’s title indicates that Kindiki’s remarks were directed at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, not President William Ruto, contradicting the claim circulating with the TikTok clip. The video was uploaded on July 13, a day after the rally.

The statements used to create the TikTok clip can be tracked to certain timestamps in the video.

1. The statement “Rais Ruto!” was cut from 2 minutes 22 seconds  
2. The statement “Wewe ni nani unakuja kunipatia lecture hapa? Aende asiende, aende asiende?” was cut from 1 minute 47 seconds 
3. The statement “Hii serikali ni yetu, tuliipigia kura tutasukumana tukiwa ndani” was cut from 2 minutes 14 seconds. 
4. The statement “Niseme nisiseme? Huyo jamaa aende asiende? Huyo jamaa apotee asipotee?” was cut from 2 minutes 25 seconds   

In the longer video, Kindiki does not say “Ruto must go” or harshly address him in either the TikTok video or the long YouTube video. He was addressing Rigathi Gachagua, as clarified in the YouTube video title, and the creators of the TikTok post edited the clips to make it appear as though he was addressing President Ruto.

The use of Citizen TV branding on the account that posted the video is a tactic to exploit public trust and bypass critical thinking through visual authority.

Verdict

The claim that the clip is a true video of Kindiki saying Ruto must go is FALSE.
