Is This Video of Malnourished Children in Turkana?

This Facebook post has a five-minute video with the post claiming the video is from Turkana County. The post goes on to deride the leaders partly stating: “Their leaders live in Nairobi, they have bought the entire Kilimani and Westlands, and they have mansions in leading suburbs as their subjects die from starvation.”

As Kenya continues to suffer the pangs of drought, with over 5.1 million Kenyans reported to be at risk of starvation, the government grapples with measures to mitigate the situation. Most of the initiatives by the government have included distributing relief food to affected areas. Turkana County is among the most affected Counties listed under Crisis Food Insecurity phase in the National Drought Management Authority’s October drought updates.

A reverse image search of the keyframes in the video leads to this page with a link leading to a YouTube video posted by ‘The San Damiano Foundation’. The video highlights, in its opening credits, vital information including that the clip is part of a 2008 Documentary titled ‘The Fragrant Spirit of Life’,  as well as the name of the producers, and the organization they work for. It also highlights that the setting is a remote village in Uganda.

The Documentary is produced by Village2Village, a humanitarian organization in Uganda. In this YouTube video an update is given on the progress of the children highlighted in the video.

The video in the Facebook post IS NOT from Turkana.
