Is This Website Linked to Rubis Energy Kenya?

By Mercy Achieng

The website claims to be affiliated with the oil marketing company Rubis Energy Kenya. It features the company’s logo and statistics on the number of service stations operating under its name across the country. The site also lists the company’s legitimate Upper Hill office address and corporate recruitment contact details in its footer.

BACKGROUND

Founded in 1990, Rubis is an independent French operator specializing in three business areas:

The distribution of petroleum products (service station networks, commercial fuel oil, aviation fuel, LPG, bitumens, etc.), with operations in Europe, the Caribbean, and Africa through our subsidiary Rubis Énergie;

Support and services, alongside downstream petroleum products distribution activity, with a midstream position, grouping refining, trading, supply, and shipping operations;

Storage through subsidiary Rubis Terminal, providing storage of liquid products for customers (petroleum, chemical, and agri-food products). Rubis Terminal is a leader in France and also holds operations in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Turkey.

Since 2000, Rubis has expanded its presence across three regions (Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean) through direct investments and acquisitions. The Group has enjoyed strong, regular progress driven by organic growth, new sites and acquisitions, while also constantly improving its productivity.

Rubis is now a major player in Kenya’s fuel distribution business. In March 2019, the company acquired the assets owned and operated by KenolKobil PLC, and later Gulf Energy Holdings in November 2019. The acquisitions meant that Rubis became a formidable competitor in the regional downstream business.

Rubis Energy Kenya is 100% owned by Rubis Energie following the full acquisition of both KenolKobil and Gulf Energy Holdings in 2019. Rubis Energie is a subsidiary of the Rubis Group, which is listed on the Paris Stock Exchange. As a listed Company, Rubis Group provides information regarding the group’s subsidiaries in its annual financial results posted on its website www.rubis.fr

VERIFICATION

The suspected website utilizes the URL https://rubiscareerskenya.work, while the real Rubis Energy Kenya website is https://rubiskenya.com/. Fake sites are usually very recent and don’t disclose their registration information, while authentic sites are older and established.

No trace of recruitment exercises shown on the page has been found posted on either at Rubis Energy Kenya’s official website, official X (formerly Twitter) account, or its Facebook page.

As of 14 May 2026, Rubis Energy separated itself from the fake site and from all of the jobs posted there. The company explicitly clarified that it is not currently conducting any recruitment or hiring exercises for fuel station attendants, station managers, or any other positions related to its retail outlets. Furthermore, Rubis stated that the email address mailto:careersrubisenergy@gmail.com and the website http://www.rubiscareerskenya.work are completely fake and are not official communication channels for the company.

An official public notice from Rubis Energy Kenya PLC warns the public against a fake recruitment scam and clarifies their authentic communication channels.

The website uses the domain extension .work (rubiscareerskenya.work). Legitimate corporate entities and major brands in Kenya rarely use generic top-level domains like .work for their primary operational infrastructure. Instead, they operate on official national domains (.co.ke) or standardized global commercial domains (.com).

VERDICT

The alleged Rubis Energy Kenya website is FAKE.
