Is this video claiming that John-Allan Namu had revealed a secret way to earn money legitimate?

A video posted on Facebook featuring Kenyan journalist John-Allan Namu, with a caption that reads: “Scandal in Kenya. Thousands confirm John-Allan Namu telling the truth about the financial loophole- and it’s making people money” claims that Namu revealed a secret way to earn money.

The post was shared on October 30, 2025, with a video that shows Namu in what looks like a news segment, and claims that he had discovered a way to get wealth ‘comparable to the annual salaries of government ministers’. The post further claims that he was summoned for questioning by the Central Bank of Kenya for allegedly disclosing confidential information.

Background

This isn’t the first time a misleading video has been linked to John-Allan Namu. On October 8, 2025, a deepfake claiming he had reported Raila Odinga’s death circulated online. The video used old footage from Namu’s tenure as a journalist at KTN. The video was shared a few days before Raila’s death on October 15, 2025. Namu debunked the clip as a deepfake.

The videos seem to rely on Namu’s reputation as a trusted voice and credible investigative journalist.

Verification

To begin with, this information was not published on any of Africa Uncensored’s official platforms on X and Facebook, which should have been the first place to share news involving one of their co-founders. When Africa Uncensored staff Clint Obere and Calvin Rock were arrested while covering protests in Mathare in 2023, and Tom Mukhwana was briefly arrested while covering protests in 2024, Africa Uncensored reported on their arrest, and it is standard procedure for the organization to post whenever incidents of this nature occur.

The first part of the video is taken from a YouTube channel called The Firstpost. The journalist allegedly reporting on Namu’s supposed revelations is Palki Sharma. However, there is no video on Firstpost’s official YouTube channel showing her making such a report. This information also doesn’t appear on her verified Instagram or X accounts.

The accent in the doctored video clearly doesn’t match Palki Sharma’s real voice; you can tell the difference in this interview.

The clip featuring Namu is from November 15, 2025, during the ICFJ Knight International Journalism Awards, where he was giving his acceptance speech. At no point in his remarks does he mention anything close to what’s claimed in the video. In his speech, he thanks his family and colleagues for their support.

Verdict

The video and associated post claiming that Africa Uncensored co-founder John-Allan Namu had revealed a secret way to earn money, and was subsequently summoned for questioning by the Central Bank is FALSE.
