Is This A Legitimate NTV Kenya Digital Card?

By Gathuru John

The digital card attached to this Facebook post, published on September 2, 2026, purportedly reports that Edwin Sifuna escaped an assassination attempt along Mbagathi Road. It was published on a Facebook page with the username Simon Wanjala, with 58 thousand followers, that posts political, news, and entertainment content. The graphic also appears in this other Facebook post.

Background

Edwin Sifuna is the Senator for Nairobi County and one of the leaders in the Linda Mwananchi Movement. Linda Mwananchi is an opposition formation that has so far covered 18 counties in its mobilisation drive. On September 1, 2026, just a day before this graphic began circulating online, Standard Group Associate Editor Alex Kiprotich had been abducted by four armed men at Gilgil along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway at night and found abandoned near Masinga Dam 9 hours later.

Verification

To verify its legitimacy, Piga Firimbi reviewed posts on NTV Kenya’s X account on September 2, 2026, but found no trace of the graphic, except for one flagging it as fake, as shown in the screengrab below.

A review of the official X accounts of Linda Mwananchi and Edwin Sifuna contained no posts about the alleged assassination attempt. Had it happened, these accounts would have been used to inform the public.

Bad online actors sometimes manufacture such fake digital cards using the visual brand identity of credible media houses to spread false narratives, as debunked here and here.

Verdict

The graphic in the Facebook post is FAKE.
