This claim was most notably shared on Twitter by Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko through his official account on January 17, 2023, then later shared here, here and here on January 18, 2023 also spread on Facebook, eliciting a widespread reaction.
Background
Hilton Hotel announced its closure on April 28, 2022, after 53 years in operation due to what it termed as ‘unprecedented challenges’ over the COVID-19 pandemic. The Hotel which is partly owned by the government also announced an unspecified number of employee layoffs as a result of the closure.
Verification
A reverse image search on the image revealed a similar image of the hotel from January 22, 2018, but without the ‘Pronto’ branding. See image below
This is evident by analyzing the altered image’s features such as the clouds that are completely similar to the image above. See the screen grab below.
Additionally, Pronto Restaurant manager who spoke to Nation refuted claims that it had acquired the premises previously occupied by Hilton Hotel.

Claims that Pronto Restaurant acquired Hilton Hotel’s former premises are FALSE.
