Tabitha Mukami Karanja is a prominent Kenyan industrialist, corporate leader, and politician who currently serves as the Senator for Nakuru County. Her connection to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) dates back to early 2022, when she formally transitioned from the corporate world into politics. She officially joined UDA ahead of the 2022 General Elections, receiving strong backing from the party leadership. Running on a UDA ticket, Karanja won the Nakuru County senatorial seat. Since taking office, she has represented Nakuru County in Parliament as an official member of the ruling UDA party.
Following the passing of former MP David Kiaraho in early 2026, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) suffered defeat in the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election in Nyandarua County. The high-stakes loss in Mount Kenya, a political stronghold, prompted blame-shifting over why the ruling party didn’t win.
Speaking to journalists and local leaders at a press briefing on July 21, 2026, Karanja directly attributed UDA’s loss in Ol Kalou to an overbearing inner circle surrounding President William Ruto.She called on President William Ruto to urgently evaluate and overhaul his political advisors, warning that their arrogance and disconnect from ground realities were actively alienating voters.She also denounced senior party officials for deploying aggressive campaign tactics and political goons during the mini polls, arguing that intimidation tactics backfired and forced local constituents to vote against UDA.

The clip featured in the post is from a public briefing in Nakuru County on August 2, 2026. Addressing residents and reporters, Senator Karanja raised the alarm over Nakuru County’s KSh 2 billion in pending bills, calling out county management and demanding protection for local contractors and traders. Addressing the gathering, she stated, ” There is nowhere I have been tied to stay by anybody. What you will tell me is where we will go. Where you will tell me is where I will go “.
While Senator Karanja emphasized her loyalty to her constituents over party allegiance, she did not state that she was exiting the UDA party. The post online misrepresented her expression of political openness to mean an immediate, official party resignation.
Under Section 14 of the Political Parties Act, an elected official resigning from a party must submit formal written notification to both party leadership and the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP). No such notice has been tendered to the public regarding the Nakuru Senator.
