A post shared on X by the account Abuga Makori EGH (@abuga_makori) on  September 29, 2026 claims, through the caption “Welcome home Morara Kebaso,” that political activist Morara Kebaso has joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). The post features a photograph of Kebaso standing beside another man believed to be the  Secretary General for UDA,                   Hassan Omar,  at what appears to be a UDA office, with both men wearing yellow UDA-branded scarves.

At the time of review, the post had attracted 168,000 views, 938 likes, 74 reposts and 74 comments, indicating the post had gained substantial reach and engagement. The account regularly shares commentary and updates on Kenyan politics, government affairs, political leaders and party activities.

Background

Morara Kebaso is a Kenyan political activist and politician who rose to prominence during the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests and through his efforts to highlight stalled government projects. He later established the Injection of National Justice, Economic and Civic Transformation (INJECT) Party and later announced his intention to pursue elective politics.

On  June 30, 2026, The Star reported that Kebaso had confirmed joining the Jubilee Party ahead of the 2027 General Election. He said he would put his INJECT Party on hold and work with the party associated with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr.  Fred Matiang’i. He also indicated that he intended to contest the Borabu parliamentary seat in Nyamira County.

Morara also had expressed support for  Dr.  Fred Matiang’i’s presidential bid. Matiang’i serves as the  Party Leader for the Jubilee Party, where he was also chosen to represent the party within the broader United Opposition Coalition and formally endorsed as Jubilee’s presidential candidate for the 2027 General Elections.

Verification

A review of media reports published before the X post shows that Morara Kebaso had publicly announced his decision to join Jubilee Party in June 2026. People Daily also reported on June 30, 2026, that he attended the opening of a Jubilee Party office in Kirinyaga County, where he expressed support for Matiang’i’s 2027 presidential bid.

In a response to the post, Morara Kebaso himself welcomed  UDA Secretary – General Hassan Omar to the Jubilee Party and referred to UDA candidate Patrick Osero as his political opponent in Borabu. His response was accompanied by an AI generated  photograph showing the same two men in what appears to be a Jubilee Party office, wearing jubilee branded scarves. This response and his recent posts on X,  significantly contradicts the implication that Kebaso had joined UDA.

Notably, there are no credible media or newspaper reports indicating that Kebaso has joined the United Democratic Alliance, nor have either UDA or Kebaso ever posted or officially declared any such moves on their verified platforms.

Claims suggesting a defection to UDA stem entirely from unverified social media chatter and a manipulated image, which a detection analysis on Hive Detect  confirmed to be 99.8% AI-generated , further validating Kebaso’s public refutation and affirmed commitment to the Jubilee Party.

Verdict

The claim that Morara Kebaso has joined the United Democratic Alliance  is FALSE.
