An X post published on October 14, 2026, by an account with the username Anwar Saddat alleged that WHO had noted that there are no Ebola cases in Kenya. The allegations were made in response to a breaking news post published by BBC News Africa which noted that Kenya had confirmed its second case of Ebola of the Bundibugyo strain. At the time of review, the post by Saddat had garnered 32 retweets and 518 likes.

Background

On October 6, 2026, major news outlets reported that Kenya had confirmed its first case of Ebola. According to the Cabinet Secretary of Health, Aden Duale, the victim was a Kenyan man who had been living in DRC. He had apparently travelled by road from DRC to Kampala, then taken a flight to Nairobi, where he was received by a relative. Afterwards, he was taken to Nairobi Hospital but later succumbed to the illness. On October 14, 2026, a second case was reported among the people who had been put in quarantine. According to a statement posted on X by the Director General of Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth, the second patient was related to the first victim.

Verification

On October 6, 2026, WHO Kenya, on its official account on X, reported that Kenya’s Ministry of Health had confirmed cases of Ebola in Kenya. Further, the post pledged WHO’s support in dealing with the case.

In addition, on October 15, 2026, WHO’s representative to Kenya, Dr. Neema Rusibamayila Kimambo, spoke to UN News, confirming that Kenya had recorded its second case of Ebola. These posts from official WHO channels thus directly debunk the claim by Anwar Saddat that WHO has confirmed the absence of Ebola cases in Kenya.

Verdict

The claim that WHO confirmed that there are no Ebola cases in Kenya is FALSE.
