Are these graphics featuring CS Justin Muturi and his son Leslie Muturi legimate?

This post features a graphic purportedly shared by NTV Kenya. It claims that Leslie Muturi collaborated with an India-based IT company, ASTRA GP, to execute cyberattacks against the government. The post further alleges that NTV is cooperating with the government to suppress its critics.

Similarly, another graphic, allegedly from The Star, claims that Leslie was spotted last year in a secret meeting with three dangerous South Sudanese warlords. The meeting reportedly aimed to procure illicit weapons and orchestrate a civilian coup, leveraging Gen Z-led protests to overthrow President Ruto’s government.

Background

Leslie Muturi, son of Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, was abducted on June 22, 2024, after leaving Alfajiri Club. Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje, driving behind Leslie, witnessed the abduction. Police initially claimed they were unaware of the incident but began investigating. Leslie was released the following day, June 23, 2024, with no further details at the time.

On January 14, 2025, the story resurfaced when Justin Muturi detailed his efforts to locate his son. After learning of the abduction, he contacted top officials, including Inspector General Japheth Koome, Interior PS Raymond Omollo, DCI Director Mohammed Amin, and NIS Director General Noordin Haji, but received little assistance. He also messaged President Ruto at 3:00 AM, who later explained he hadn’t seen the message due to phone issues.

Muturi’s breakthrough came when a friend from NIS revealed Leslie was in their custody. After more calls, President Ruto confirmed this with Haji and ordered Leslie’s release. Leslie was freed an hour later and contacted his father, who went to meet him.

The graphics were created and circulated following the release of CS Muturi’s statement.

Verification

The alleged NTV digital card closely replicated the layout, font, and color scheme commonly used in the station’s graphics, with the only notable difference being the absence of a date. However, NTV did not share this graphic on its official social media platforms, including X and Facebook, and has since debunked it as fake.

The Star also dismissed the graphic attributed to them as fake.

Verdict

The graphics attributed to The Star and NTV featuring CS Justin Muturi and his son Leslie are FAKE.
