According to research by the Mozilla Foundation into online disinformation networks, shadowy actors frequently deploy coordinated tactics to manipulate online public discourse and drive web traffic.
In many instances, sensationalized headlines or fake death claims surrounding public figures are leveraged by monetized clickbait sites to harvest web visits and ad revenue. By mimicking legacy media branding, such as Nation.Africa, creators of fake digital cards attempt to exploit the credibility of mainstream news outlets to mislead social media users.

A search across official Nation.Africa channels reveals that the publisher did not create or post the digital card in question.
On September 3, 2026, Nation.Africa issued an official disclaimer via its verified social media channels (WhatsApp), flagging the graphic as fake and cautioning the public against circulating it. The outlet stamped the image with a prominent “FAKE” label and advised social media users to disregard the post.
