A post shared on X on August 21, 2026, by user @Mary Kathomi, claimed that KTN had finally released the exact audit report number of KDF service w/men who graduated in 2026. The post further mentioned the number of recruits who graduated from various tribes and their recruiters, who appear to be pro-government politicians.
Background
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) are the armed forces of the Republic of Kenya, made up of the Kenya Army, Kenya Navy, and Kenya Air Force. Its main mission is to defend and protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic, assist and cooperate with other authorities in situations of emergency or disaster, and restore peace in any part of Kenya affected by unrest or instability as assigned. Around the time the claim was making rounds on social media, KDF cohort 01/25 graduates passed out after completing 7 months of intensive basic military training. However, corruption has been an issue during KDF recruitments.
Verification
Piga Firimbi reviewed KTN’s official channels and found no audit report or publication detailing KDF recruitment as presented in the graphic. The absence of such a report from KTN’s official platforms suggests that the information was fabricated to appear credible.
Piga Firimbi also tallied the figures for graduates from each tribe listed in the graphic, arriving at a total of 4,994 alleged graduates. However, credible reports from KBC and The Star indicate that more than 5,000 KDF recruits graduated during the pass-out parade held on August 13, 2026. The discrepancy between the figures further casts doubt on the authenticity of the graphic.
These findings confirm that the information attributed to KTN and shared by Mary Kathomi is fabricated.

The graphic attributed to KTN about the data on KDF graduates is FAKE.
