This Facebook post claims that the United States of America State Department issued a new Travel Advisory against eight counties in Kenya including Mandera, Kilifi, Turkana, Nairobi and Tana River over terror threats, kidnapping and crime.
Background
Terrorist attacks have previously occurred in Kenya mostly targeting shopping malls, places of worship and Kenyan and foreign government facilities as seen here. This has led to international territories’ warning citizens against travel to some of these areas.
The US state department whose mission is to protect the state’s security, prosperity and democratic values, together with shaping the international environment in which all Americans can thrive, has been advising its citizens about safe areas to travel.
Verification
The US State department indeed issued a Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution Travel Advisory on October 4, 2022. In the statement, the department warned its citizens traveling to Kenya -Somali borders due to terrorism and kidnapping, with Nairobi and Turkana areas said to be prone to criminal activities.
