As Kenya’s political temperature rises ahead of the 2027 General Elections, the Internet has become a battleground for political strategy and electoral campaign messaging. An example is this X account claiming that Wiper Democratic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka visited State House to join the government. The post features a video clip showing President William Ruto sitting alongside Amina Mnyazi, Member of Parliament for Malindi Constituency; Kalonzo Musyoka, Party Leader, Wiper Democratic Front; Rigathi Gachagua, Party Leader, Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP); Moses Wetangula, Speaker of the National Assembly; Kimani Ichung’wah, Leader of the Majority Party, National Assembly; Opiyo Wandayi, Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum; and Okong’o Omogeni, Senator for Nyamira County.

Background
To understand why a video clip of Kalonzo Musyoka at State House gained traction, it is necessary to examine his political history, his track record with political coalitions, and recent shifts within Kenya’s opposition landscape. Throughout his political career, Kalonzo Musyoka has built a reputation as a negotiator who has entered power-sharing agreements during moments of political realignment. Following the contested 2007 presidential election, Kalonzo received President Mwai Kibaki’s appointment as Vice President, joining the administration. Over subsequent election cycles, he continued to navigate major political shifts, co-founding coalitions such as the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) and the National Super Alliance (NASA), before aligning with Azimio la Umoja in 2022. Because of this history of navigating political partnerships, public interest remains naturally high whenever he is purported to be seen with any political leader.
Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party is also a key anchor party in the 2027 United Opposition. This alliance brings together the Wiper Party alongside other opposition parties, including Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), Martha Karua’s People’s Liberation Party, and Eugene Wamalwa’s DAP-K build a unified front.
Following the early 2025 formation of the broad-based government, which saw major leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) take up Cabinet dockets, including John Mbadi, Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya, and Opiyo Wandayi, speculation mounted over whether other opposition leaders from the Azimio Coalition would follow suit. Amid these shifting dynamics, curiosity surrounding Kalonzo Musyoka’s political direction remains exceptionally high.
Additionally, public statements from UDA party leaders during regional tours have frequently called on Kalonzo Musyoka and the Wiper party to join the government. When combined with past political precedents, active political overtures, and circulated media clips, these factors created a context where the circulating video of him at State House could easily make the public believe that he has formally joined the government.
Verification
To verify whether the clip depicts a recent State House visit or political deal, Keyframe extraction and reverse video searches were conducted; an audit confirmed that the video clip in the post does not show a recent 2026 event. News archives from Kenyan Digital News confirmed that the footage was originally recorded on March 8, 2024, during an official presentation at State House, Nairobi. The footage shows the bipartisan NADCO leadership and national officials present at the 2024 handover, including President William Ruto, Speaker Moses Wetangula, then-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, then-Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, Senator Okong’o Mogeni, MP Amina Mnyazi, and former MP Jeremiah Kioni.
Recirculated video recordings purporting to show secret State House negotiations involving Kalonzo Musyoka have been repeatedly refuted before by major newsrooms. In early 2025, both The Star Kenya and The Standard published verifications of Kalonzo’s public statement, declaring the recirculated video fake news and reaffirming his stance in the opposition.
Following the surge of this recirculated video, Kalonzo Musyoka and his party leadership have outrightly denied the claims, describing them as malicious propaganda. On July 30, 2026, Senate Deputy Minority Leader Enoch Wambua clarified that the two have not held any talks to work together in the next General Election. Kalonzo later appeared at a joint press conference with partners from the opposition coalition, dismissing the claims as propaganda and reiterating his continued alignment with the United Alternative Government into 2027.
Verdict
The claim that Kalonzo Musyoka recently attended a State House tour hosted by President William Ruto to join the government is FALSE.
