A photo circulating on X claims to show the front page of Taifa Leo newspaper dated August 4, 2026.
The purported front page carries the headline “Kibaraka au Kiongozi” and features Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. The accompanying text claims that allies of former President Uhuru Kenyatta are now leading Sifuna’s campaign and asks whether this amounts to “Uhuru’s third term”.
The post was shared on X by a user identified as Stewhe, with the caption alleging that Sifuna’s 2027 political machinery was being assembled at Uhuru Kenyatta’s former office.
Background
Fake newspaper front pages are sometimes manipulated to make fabricated claims appear to have been reported by established media organisations. Such images can gain credibility because they use familiar newspaper branding, layouts and headlines.
Verification
Piga Firimbi compared the purported front page with the authentic Taifa Leo edition published on August 4, 2026.
The purported cover is dated Jumanne, August 4, 2026, but carries the “Taifa Jumapili” masthead. Taifa Jumapili is the Sunday edition of the newspaper, making the combination of a Tuesday date and a Sunday masthead inconsistent.
The authentic August 4, 2026 edition instead carries the headline “Azimio yalenga Gachagua”, which translates to “Azimio targets Gachagua”. Its lead story features former President Uhuru Kenyatta, unlike the purported cover, which features Sifuna.

Piga Firimbi also compared the purported cover with other genuine Taifa Leo front pages and identified additional inconsistencies in its layout.
For instance, the purported cover lacks the blue kicker normally appearing above the main headline on Taifa Leo front pages.
The edition number and other stories on the purported cover also do not correspond with the authentic August 4 edition.
Piga Firimbi further traced some of the stories appearing on the purported cover. A search for the headline “Sh3b kwa atakeyanasa Rais Maduro”, which appears at the bottom of the purported front page, led to an older Taifa Leo front page published on January 12, 2025.
The January 12, 2025 edition carried the headline “Kibaraka hatari” and used the same Sunday Taifa Jumapili layout seen in the purported August 4 cover. The accompanying story featured Dadaab MP Farah Maalim.

A comparison of the two covers shows that several elements from the January 12, 2025 edition, including some of the secondary stories and the Sunday layout, remain on the purported August 4, 2026 cover.
This indicates that the purported front page was created by altering an older Taifa Leo front page rather than being an authentic August 4 edition.
Piga Firimbi also reviewed Taifa Leo’s official social media pages, where the newspaper publishes its daily front pages, and found the authentic August 4, 2026 cover carrying the headline “Azimio yalenga Gachagua.”
The purported front page therefore does not match the edition published by Taifa Leo on August 4, 2026.
Piga Firimbi also contacted Taifa Leo digital editor Fatuma Bariki, who confirmed that the purported front page is fake.
Piga Firimbi identified several inconsistencies in the purported front page, raising questions about its authenticity.
If genuine, the front page would indicate that Taifa Leo had published a story linking Sifuna to Uhuru Kenyatta’s political plans, making verification necessary.
Verdict
The purported Taifa Leo front page dated August 4, 2026 is FAKE.
