Claims that former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Wilson Sossion has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer for the Teachers Service Commission (T.S.C). This Facebook post shared on November 17, 2022, congratulated Mr. Sossion for his appointment, while another shared on the same day, questioned these claims.
Background
T.S.C is an umbrella body formed to manage human resources in the education sector. Its history dates back to 1950. Equally, KNUT was formed about seven years later. This body was formed both as a union and a professional organization to look into grievances and professional interests of teachers.
Currently serving as a Nominated Member of Parliament, Wilson Sossion previously served as the secretary general for KNUT for almost eight years.
Verification
In a number of news articles, Sossion is quoted denying these allegations. This one shared by KBC quotes Sossion saying the claims are, “fake reporting.”
Besides, Section 8 (1) of the Teachers Service Commission Act of 2012 mandates the advertisement of vacancies for the chairperson and members of the commission, in a Gazette notice.
