This video shared as a tweet, claims to show the recent earthquake experienced in Haiti. Posted on August 14, 2021, it claims that this 7.2 magnitude earthquake has been the worst since 2018.
Background
Over the past two weeks, Haiti experienced an earthquake that left more than 2,200 people dead. Even as relief operations are underway, the exercise is impeded by flooding, damage of access roads and gangs hijacking aid trucks and ambulances.
According to World Vision, so far, the 2010 earthquake in Haiti is considered the most disastrous. It left almost 3 million people affected, roughly 250,000 lives lost and 300,000 others injured. “The earthquake registered a magnitude of 7.0; that’s a high level of energy at the point of impact.” World Vision goes on to add, “because it occurred at 6.2 miles below the surface, a shallow depth, its powerful energy had a devastating effect at ground level.”
