This video shared on Twitter on March 20, 2023 claims to show protestors in Nairobi’s Central Business District during the Azimio protests.
Background
True to his word, Azimio One Kenya leader Raila Odinga led protests on March 20, 2023. His followers took to the streets first as Odinga was held up at The Serena Hotel in meetings with other leaders. As he left to go address the public in Nairobi’s Eastlands area, police lobbed tear gas canisters and water canons at his convoy.
Verification
A reverse image search on the keyframes generated from this video redirects to a TikTok account under the usernam- Mondy_ke. The original video is from protests by Meru University students on March 6, 2023, after their Vice Chancellor was sent on terminal leave.
Also, the Meru Institute of Business Studies (MIBS) is hosted in one of the buildings in the video. The images on the institution’s official website reveal that the video was taken around their Main Campus in Makutano, Meru.
