A video circulating online claims to show President Uhuru Kenyatta shaking hands with Queen Elizabeth II during his recent visit to the UK.
The video began circulating on July 26, 2021 on the back of President Kenyatta’s visit to the UK for the Global Education Summit. He arrived in the UK on July 27, 2021 to chair the summit when tweets purporting that he met the queen contained the video below. Another tweet posted on July 28, 2021 further indicated that; “Queen Elizabeth doesn’t shake hands that easily but she shook hands with H.E Uhuru Kenyatta”.
Background
This three-day visit will see President Uhuru announce major investments into the Big Four Projects; on affordable housing, manufacturing and health partnerships with the United Kingdom. The two governments are also expected to look into a new Economic Partnership Agreement to boost trade worth KES 200 billion a year.
The summit seeks to raise $5 billion to educate children in up to 90 countries where 80% of the world’s out-of-school children live. This will run for 5 years, in a financing campaign dubbed; ‘Raise Your Hand’.

A reverse image search of an image from this video shows a similar image of President Uhuru at a dinner banquet with the Queen and other state officials. This was during the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting that took place between April 19 and April 20, 2018.
On April 21, 2018, Team Uhuru, a Youtube channel posted this same video. With over 1,000 views, this video was shared under #Commonwealth2018 referring to the meeting that took place in England then.
Further, using keywords; ‘Uhuru UK visit’ between ‘April 19, 2018 and April 20, 2018,’ an article by Citizen Digital came up. It shows President Uhuru shaking hands with the Queen, stating that this occurred on the second day of the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting. This was the 25th meeting of the heads of government of the Commonwealth Nations.
