Does This Twitter Account Belong to SK Macharia?

A Twitter account bearing the name SK Macharia has been posting pro-Azimio and Raila Odinga content; for example as seen here and here.

The account, which has over 20,000 followers, also bears the profile image of Citizen TV and Royal Media Services (RMS) owner Samuel Kamau Macharia. According to TruthNest, a tool that analyzes social media accounts, the imposter account created on March 7, 2022 amassed a huge following even from high-profile accounts such as @ItsMainaKageni.

Piga Firimbi established that this account does not belong to S.K. Macharia and is only parading as the media entrepreneur.

The just concluded August 9 general elections pit Raila Odinga against his political adversary William Ruto. Politicians often seek endorsements by influential individuals in order to gain popularity with the electorate. While SK Macharia previously publicly declared support for Raila Odinga, he maintained that his support was personal and that his businesses, which include Citizen TV, would remain impartial.

It is worth noting that for a better part of August 10, 2022 Macharia-owned Citizen TV was trending on Twitter with some disparaging tweets claiming that the station was biased in reporting the ballot tallying statistics by supposedly manipulating the numbers to show Odinga in the lead.

The account paraded as Macharia’s account is not verified. Verified Twitter accounts of high-profile account owners usually have a blue tick next to the name of the account. This particular account lacks the verification mark.

Besides, the account posing as Macharia was flagged by Citizen Digital’s official Twitter account with a message warning that the RMS owner has no social media presence. This message was also relayed by other RMS-owned media including Ramogi FM, Inooro FM and Musyi FM on their social media accounts.

The account named SK MACHARIA (@Sk_Machariaa) is FAKE.
