A video (see below) has been circulating purporting to show Anutin Charnvirakul, Thailand’s health minister, flinching while receiving an injection.
A screengrab from the video show texts that read: ‘He is Health Minister of Thailand’ in English and ‘He is Health Minister of Thailand’ a translation from Arabic.
Background
Since governments started rolling out the COVID-19 vaccine, a number of state leaders have publicly taken the jab as a way of encouraging their fellow citizens to willingly receive a shot of the vaccine. Data shows that, so far, Thailand has fully vaccinated 0.01% of its population and 0.14% have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
Significant adjustments have been made by the government towards measures to contain the spread of the virus. The mandatory quarantine period for tourists has been reduced from 14 days to 10 days. However, those visiting from countries such as Kenya, Congo, Cameroon, Rwanda and Mozambique with reports of the mutated virus are still required to isolate for two weeks.
This decision was made with the hope to revive Thailand’s economy. A report by Nikkei Asia shows that there has been a resurgence of COVID-19 cases between January and March.
Verification
An image reverse search done by focusing on keyframes from this video, pointed towards an upload posted on January 29, 2018, by Radio Jambo, with a caption reading, ‘Chinese man crying after refusing an injection.’
Additionally, a previous fact check done by Agence France-Presse dismisses claims that the man in the video is Thailand’s health Minister receiving the COVID vaccine.
Verdict
The claims made by the video above are FALSE.
