FALSE: Image of Stadium Is From Russia Not Kisii

This post on X (archived here) claims to show “Bogeche Stadium in Kisii” with an accompanying image of a soccer pitch.

Background

In 2013 Former president Uhuru Kenyatta, while unveiling their manifesto, promised nine stadiums across the country during his term in office. Apart from construction of new stadiums, a number of existing ones were poised to get face-lifts.

In the same vein, President William Ruto’s government has embarked on rehabilitating existing stadiums, with the intention of building more.

As the Africa Cup of Nations is set to be held jointly by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, President Ruto committed to complete the stadiums promised by the Jubilee government, which he was a part of, and build a new 60,000 capacity stadium.

Verification

A reverse image search leads to this page (archived). There are multiple articles with the same image. According to this article on “coolest” football pitches, the pitch shown is Meschershky Park in Moscow, Russia.

Footage of the pitch was published on Shutterstock with the caption “football field in the forest, Moscow Park Meshchersky”. The soccer field is identified as “Forest Soccer Field” on Google Maps, west of Meshchersky Park, and is clearly identifiable on Google Earth.
