Is This Image of a School in Ugenya Constituency?

This tweet (archived) claims to show a school in Ugenya constituency, Siaya County. The tweet claims that Ugenya Member of Parliament, David Ochieng, is “insulting one-month-old governor James Orengo” while the schools in his constituency are dilapidated. This same image was also shared here under the claim that it is James Orengo Primary School and here as Kirind Primary School.

Background

The row between Ugenya Member of Parliament David Ochieng and Siaya Governor James Orengo may not be something new. In 2021, the two were embroiled in an exchange over the tarmacking of Got Nanga-Sega road. While it is not clear the cause of the disagreement between the two inferred by the tweet, the two have previously been at loggerheads.

David Ochieng, the party leader of Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) Party beat the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) candidate Christopher Karan in a by-election held in 2019. This was seen as no mean feat beating an ODM candidate in the party’s backyard. He fell out with ODM party in the run-up to the 2017 elections forming his own party – MDG party.

Verification

Piga Firimbi did not find any record of a school by the name James Orengo Primary School in the Primary Schools registry here and also here.

A reverse image search leads to this page (archived) with the image shared on Kahawatungu, an online blog and on Facebook.

Our source visited Kirind Primary School and sent us the images below, none of which is similar to the image in the claim above. They also confirmed that none of the buildings in Kirind Primary School resembles the one in the claim.
