Is Safaricom Giving Out a Sh7,000 Gift Voucher?

This link, shared on WhatsApp claims that Safaricom is giving away Kshs 7,000 on its anniversary while showcasing comments of Mpesa messages appearing to confirm receipt of the said cash prize.

Verification

Piga Firimbi has previously looked into similar posts purporting to be Safaricom give-aways and another claimed to be from the East African Breweries Limited. 

Upon running this link on the WhoIs site, results show it was registered on October 11, 2021 with mpesaken.gifts as its domain name. This compared to Safaricom’s official website differs. Safaricom’s website was registered on December 2, 2003 with safaricom.co.ke as its domain name. See screen-grab below

This promotion does not appear on Safaricom’s website, nor its official Facebook and Twitter accounts as would a genuine Safaricom promotion. In a tweet published on November 17, 2021,  Safaricom cautioned the public against such surveys, stating that all its official communications are done through its website and social media platforms. 

Verdict

This promotion claiming to give away gift vouchers from Safaricom is FAKE.
