Was Former Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno Attacked as Alleged?

This post claims to show images taken at Anindo Polling Station after an alleged attack by armed thugs. The post also alleges that Former Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno was attacked at the said polling station in Awendo Constituency in Migori County where he is contesting for the gubernatorial seat.

Background

Violence between rival factions was witnessed in several constituencies across Kenya on August 9, 2022. One fatal incident on election night involved Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa who is still on the run after allegedly shooting dead an aide of his rival.

Verification

According to Manuel Odeny, a reporter in the region, violence did indeed erupt at Andido Polling Station in Awendo Constituency, Migori County.

“There was a lag in Stream 5 at Awendo Polling Station where Migori Gubernatorial candidate Dalmas Otieno was allegedly observing the voting exercise,” Manuel told Piga Firimbi in a phone interview.

“Allegations of voter bribery started spreading then spread within the polling station, sparking violence between youth outside the station.”

The images were also published by The Star.

“A private gun owner and machete-wielding youths were involved in the altercation that left Dalmas Otieno’s bodyguard hospitalized and a gun stolen,” Manuel Otieno added.

Verdict

Images claiming to show an attack on former Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno at Andindo Polling Station are TRUE.
