A tweet published on Raila Odinga Junior’s account purports to show a huge crowd gathered over presidential aspirant Raila Odinga’s (also his father) political rally at Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa on Sunday, February 20, 2022.
The image, alongside other images, was also shared on a pro-Raila Odinga Twitter account on February 20, 2022. Text on the tweet reads; “And by the way ladies and Gentlemen… that’s how you fill and do a rally in Tononoka.”
Background
Raila Odinga’s political camp, dubbed Azimio La Umoja, recently held a rally at Mombasa’s Tononoka Grounds on February 20. This came shortly after rival political party United Democratic Alliance (UDA), whose presidential aspirant is Deputy President William Ruto had been at the same Tononoka Grounds on February 5, 2022.

Verification
Upon conducting a reverse image search, Piga Firimbi found that the image shared on Raila Junior’s account is from a 2017 rally. The same image was in fact posted here in a tweet dated March 26, 2017 on Raila Odinga’s official account.
This campaign was in preparations for the past August 2017 general elections, and the image featured on media reports at the time, including this article on the TUKO news website.
Verdict
The image shared by Raila Junior DOES NOT show the crowd gathered over the recent Azimio political campaign at Tononoka grounds.
