A tweet published on November 5, 2022 claims to show an image of President William Ruto alleged to have recently flagged off food aid to victims of drought in Turkana County.
Background
In the recent drought crisis that hit Kenya, a wave of misinformation in form of unrelated images, like one debunked by Piga Firimbi here, and another here, have been circulating online. According to a National Drought Management statement issued in October 2022, the drought affected 23 counties, with 11 counties being the hardest hit.
Verification
In a reverse image search, Piga Firimbi found that the image contained in the tweet was initially published in June 2019. Featured in an article on The Star news website, the image shows Turkana residents receiving food aid. See screengrab below.
Verdict
The tweet claiming to show President William Ruto delivering food aid to drought victims in Turkana is MISLEADING.
