Attached to these tweets is an alleged recent TIME Magazine cover claiming that President William Ruto was featured among the 50 most influential people in the world.
Background
Piga Firimbi has previously debunked claims that Raila Odinga and Peter Obi were featured in the publication’s annual list of 100 influential people.
TIME Magazine published its 2023 list of the 100 most influential people on April 14, 2023. Among the notable names in this year’s list are World Cup winner Lionel Messi, Beyonce, American author Colleen Hoover, Michael. B. Jordan and Angela Basset among others.
Verification
President William Ruto’s name would have featured under the leaders’ section alongside the likes of the United States of America President Joe Biden and Nigeria’s President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu. However, his name is not in this section or any of the other five published on Time Magazine’s official website.
The only Kenyan featured on the list is the late Wangari Mathai’s daughter Wanjira Mathai, who is listed under the innovators for her efforts in land restoration and forestry.
Verdict
Claims that President William Ruto was featured among TIME Magazine’s 2023 list of the most influential people are FALSE.
