A Facebook post purports to show a man erasing the photo of Kenya’s deputy president, William Ruto, off a wall at State House.
The post attributes the erasure of DP Ruto’s image to his current relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“The remaining Ruto photo at the State House wall is being washed off ruthlessly now at the house on the hill. Hi ndiyo ndoa ya machozi. (This is the marriage full of tears),” the Facebook post states.
Verification
A reverse image search shows that the original photo was not taken at Kenya’s State House but at a public wall at the Mall Galleries in London on 11 June, 2008.
In the original photo, an artist is pictured painting graffiti on the wall and not washing off DP Ruto’s image as alleged in the Facebook post. The photo was uploaded on Flickr by Philippa Willitts.
The image of the deputy president does not appear on the original photo and was added against a white background to make it appear as though it were being erased.
Verdict
PesaCheck has looked into a Facebook post claiming to show a photo of Kenya’s deputy president, William Ruto, being washed off the State House wall and finds it to be ALTERED.
