By Naomi Wanjiku

The photo was taken on 25 October 2017 and it is of Raila Odinga’s supporters on a street in Nairobi.

tweet purporting to show demonstrators in Kisumu County in Kenya is FALSE.

“Kisumu county demonstration kicks off. The love for Raila Amollo Odinga is unstoppable,” the text accompanying the image reads.

A picture of people holding placards is attached to the tweet.

The most conspicuous placard reads: “Baba (father) your last word is final”. Odinga is referred to as baba by his supporters.

The second placard says: “Usiseme kama ujui Migingo, base [Don’t say if you don’t know Migingo, base]”. Migingo is an island on Lake Victoria at the border of Kenya and Uganda.

The image we are fact-checking was shared on 7 December 2022, when Odinga was holding a public consultative forum at Kamukunji grounds in Nairobi.

We checked the image to establish whether it was of Kisumu residents demonstrating on 7 December 2022.
