This image has been making rounds on WhatsApp claiming to show a Nigerian pastor who’s supposedly holding a wrestling belt he claims to have won after defeating the devil. The same claim was made here and here.
Background
Prophet Odumeje whose real name is Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere is a controversial Nigerian preacher known to cause controversy over his dramatic style of preaching that prompts many to question his methods. The Vanguard describes his ministry as one that thrives mostly in the “signs and wonders he performs during his service.”
Verification
The photo used in the posts does indeed show Prophet Odumeje clutching a championship belt. The earliest claim was shared here on December 25, 2021 and many more posted on entertainment blogs and Youtube on December 30, 2021.
Oduemeje, who in the photograph appears to be holding a microphone, told his congregation that he won the belt in an International Spiritual Wrestling Championship held in ‘hell’.
