Uganda just like Kenya is facing hard economic times as commodity prices soar. In the meantime, a digital card attributed to the New Vision media organization based in Uganda has been shared numerous times. It apparently quotes Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni asking Ugandans to brace for even worse economic times, as commodity prices are now headed towards an upward trajectory.
Background
Similar digital cards have previously been shared, misquoting media houses in Kenya as well. One attributed to Kenyans.co.ke claimed Wangui Ngirci had dropped her political ambitions of vying for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat. Another claimed that former Machakos county first lady Lilian Ng’ang’a had declared interest in contesting for Nairobi’s Women Representative seat.
Verification
Taking a look at New Vision’s social media accounts, a tweet that flags this digital card as fake comes up. What Facebook shows is an original version of this was shared on March 14, 2022. It quotes the president’s encouraging values of honesty and integrity.
