Has KUCCPS Announced Revised University Entry Points?

Claims shared here, here and here on Twitter purport that the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) announced a change in the universities’ selection points. Similar claims on Facebook state that the selection will be different, based on gender. “Boys 62 points, girls 61,” the posts read.

Background

Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu, released the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education 2022 results on January 20, 2023. The Senate called for investigations into the results which it described as unusual. CS Machogu repeatedly defended the results saying that they are credible and that there were no irregularities.

Verification

KUCCPS flagged the claims as false through a post on its official Twitter account. “Information on student placement will be communicated officially through this page, the KUCCPS website and official social media pages,” the post reads.

“An official communication on the minimum degree entry grade and other requirements will be made in due course through the mainstream media and KUCCPS website,” said the state corporation in a follow-up comment.

Verdict

Claims that KUCCPS has reviewed university entry points are FALSE.
