Is This Ad for Jobs at Naivas Legitimate?

The author of the message shares a link and claims it is from Naivas Supermarket purports to advertise 1,250 job opportunities in 22 branches due to ‘recent expansion’ and ‘government directives to curb the spread of COVID-19’. The same post has also been shared on Facebook here, here and here

Background

Naivas Supermarket was established in 1990 and has grown to become Kenya’s largest supermarket chain with 84 stores countrywide. According to Business Daily, the retailer had employed over 8,000 people across the country as of June 2022.

Piga Firimbi previously debunked a similar claim here shared in 2020.

Verification

In a comment shared on November 21, 2022, Naivas Supermarket clarified that it does not have job openings. “We are happy that you are considering us as your prospective employer of choice, however, we currently do not have any job openings.” The comment further stated that any job openings will be advertised on the official page

A clear red flag in the Google Forms link shared in the message is that the applicants are requested to pay Sh300 to a paybill for registration and ‘interview processing’. In the reply by the official page, Naivas warns that it does not charge for recruitments.

“We do not charge for recruitment; do not fall prey to scammers,” Naivas concludes.

Verdict

The WhatsApp messages and Facebook posts claiming that Naivas is advertising 1,250 vacancies are FAKE.
