At the Nairobi Gubernatorial Debate, held July 11, 2022, Kenya Kwanza’s candidate and current Nairobi Senator, Johnson Sakaja, and his Azimio counterpart Polycarp Igathe made various claims on the state of the county and shared their plans for the Nairobi electorate.
The Azimio One Kenya candidate Polycarp Igathe claimed that there are 2.4 million voters in Nairobi, making up 11% of the total number of registered voters in the country.
Verification
According to the IEBC’s statistics of voters registered for the elections slated for August 9, 2022, Nairobi has 2,415,310 registered voters out of the 22,102,532 registered nationwide. This makes up 10.9% of the total number of registered voters in the country, making Igathe’s claim TRUE.
