This front page, allegedly of Taifa Leo newspaper making rounds online was shared here on Twitter. The same front page was shared even more on Facebook here, here, here and here. It surfaces at a time when Kenyans online were debating- under the hashtag #SayNoToLGBTQInKenya– following a controversial ruling by the Supreme Court of Kenya.
Background
On February 24, 2023, the Supreme Court of Kenya upheld a High Court ruling that ordered the NGO Coordination Board to register NGOs seeking to advocate for the rights of the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer) community in Kenya. The Supreme Court argued that the ban violated the NGO’s freedom of association and that the Board cannot deny registration purely based on sexual orientation. The decision was met with uproar from religious leaders and politicians.
