The Office of the Deputy President has denounced the page.
A Facebook page purporting to offer loans in the name of Dorcas Rigathi, Kenya’s Second Lady, is a HOAX.
The post reads in part, “*SCHOOL FEES BUSINESS AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT SOFT LOANS* Hello, hope this finds you well. Do you know that you can benefit from MAMA CARE funds project that has zero interest rate. It is very easy, remember the loan is secured, No paperwork, no long procedures, no bureaucracy and long waiting periods.”
The alleged loans on offer range from KSh10,000 to KSh900,000, with corresponding non-refundable security fees and take only 20 minutes to process.
The post directs interested individuals to share personal information, including name, identification number, phone number, and bank account details.
The page in question, under the username “Bishop Dorcas Gachagua” has the pictures of the Second Lady on the cover and profile photos. It has 27,000 likes and 28,000 followers.
To authenticate the particular Facebook page, PesaCheck contacted Njeri Rugene, head of Communication Services at the Deputy President’s office, who denounced it.
“It is a fake account,” Rugene said in writing.
PesaCheck has previously debunked another Facebook page impersonating the Second Lady, where we confirmed that her official Facebook page is under the username “Pastor Dorcas Rigathi” and currently has 70,000 likes and 84,000 followers. There is no mention of loans on this page.
The Second Lady’s bona fide Facebook page was created on 28 February 2022, whereas the imposter was created on 5 September 2022.
PesaCheck has looked into a Facebook page offering loans in the name of Dorcas Rigathi, Kenya’s Second Lady, and finds it to be a HOAX.
